PRINCETON, N.J. – After trailing early and giving up a seventh inning lead, the Lehigh softball team scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning and held off another late Princeton rally to defeat the Tigers 7-6 in 11 innings Wednesday at Class of 1895 Field. Junior Morgan Decker gave the Mountain Hawks a 5-4 lead with a two-out RBI double and sophomore Vicky Lattanzio followed with a two run home run in the top of the 11th but Princeton got two runs back before Christine Campbell got the final two outs with the tying and winning runs on base.

Due to the length of game one and decreasing daylight, game two of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled. Lehigh improves to 27-6 on the season while Princeton, coached by former Mountain Hawk standout Lisa (Sweeney) Van Ackeren '09 falls to 14-19.

The host Tigers used a two out rally in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Senior Emily Bausher struck out the first two batters she faced before issuing a walk and a single. A two-run double from Skye Jerpbak gave Princeton the lead.

Lehigh loaded the bases with one out in the third but could not score. The Mountain Hawks pulled even with two runs in the fourth. Bausher led off with a single and was erased when senior Cassie Waggy reached on a fielder's choice. Senior Emma Capetz tripled to right, scoring pinch runner Katie Schultz, while an error by Marissa Reynolds allowed Capetz to come all the way around with the tying run.

The game remained tied 2-2 into the seventh when junior Alexis Watanabe drew a leadoff walk and then Decker hit into a force play with Watanabe out at second. Two batters later, junior Jessica Calvini gave Lehigh the lead with a two-run home run down the left field line, her third of the season.

In the bottom of the seventh Princeton put the tying runs on base with two outs and Cara Worden tied the game with a pinch hit two run double down the left field line.

Neither team was able to score in the first three extra frames. Junior MacKenzie Velasquez led off the 11th with an infield single and moved to third after a pair of ground outs. Decker then gave Lehigh the lead with a double to left center  and Lattanzio followed with her second home run of the year, giving the Mountain Hawks a 7-4 lead.

The Tigers refused to go quietly, scoring a run on three hits to open the bottom of the 11th. Watanabe threw Sarah McGowan at the plate for the first out. Kelsey Smith then singled up the middle to bring Princeton within 7-6 but then sophomore Christine Campbell got Reynolds to fly out to left and then struck out Emily Viggers to end the game.

Campbell earned the win to improve to 12-2 on the season. She allowed two runs on five hits in four innings with a walk and three strikeouts. Bausher took a no-decision after allowing four runs on eight hits in seven innings. She struck out ten Tigers and walked two.

Erica Nori suffered the loss for Princeton, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings of relief of Ashley LaGuardia.

The Tigers outhit the Mountain Hawks 13-10 and committed the only four errors of the contest. Every Lehigh starter recorded one hit, except for Lattanzio, who finished with two.

The Mountain Hawks will return home to face Boston University Friday in a single game beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Kaufman Field. The game is the final game of a three-game series that was postponed back on March 21-22. Lehigh swept a doubleheader from the Terriers on April 1.
