BOSTON – The Lehigh women's track and field team wrapped up the indoor season with a strong showing at the ECAC Championships this weekend at Boston University. Four women earned All-East distinction after finishing in the top eight of their respective events over the three-day meet.
"We expected some good marks this weekend and I'm very happy with the performances," said head coach Matt Utesch. "It's great to be going into the outdoor season with such great performances and some strong efforts we can build off of."
Sophomore Courtney Avery earned All-East honors for the second-straight year after finishing third in the high jump with a leap of 1.75 meters.
"Courtney jumped her PR for the third time this season," said Utesch. "She had great attempts at higher bards and I think she's really ready to make a big jump heading into the outdoor season."
Junior Gabrielle Wardle and senior Natalie Bates both earned All-East distinction in the pentathlon Friday after finishing fourth and seventh, respectively. Wardle earned fourth place with a personal-best 3,468 points, while Bates placed seventh with 3,424 points. Both women earn the first All-East honors of their careers.
"Out multi girls continue to impress and they just come out and get it done," said Utesch. "Wardle had an overall PR and put together a great multi. Bates continues to do what she does best and to have two women earn All-East in the event is really exciting."
Senior Victoria Mullane finished eighth in the 800 meter run finals with a time of 2:13.38. She earned a spot in the finals with a new personal-best time of 2:10.31 in the prelims that was less than one-tenth of a second off the Lehigh school record.
Sophomore Katie Hatler finished 23rd in the 60 meter hurdles preliminary with a time of 8.95. Freshman Hanna Brosky wrapped up the 500 meter dash with a new personal-best time of 1:16.63. Senior Ingrid Simon finished 17th in the 1,000 meter run prelims with a time of 2:55.89.
The quartet of Brosky, Simon, junior Ann O'Connell and sophomore Marissa Karl grabbed 17th place in the distance medley relay after crossing the finish line in a time of 12:08.21.
Next up, the Mountain Hawks will open the outdoor season at the Philly Classic on March 21.
