Mountain Hawks to compete in ECAC/IC4A Championships this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Ten women and 18 men will represent the Lehigh track and field teams at the ECAC/IC4A Championships this weekend at Boston University. The select athletes qualified for the meet based on predetermined standards and will be competing against the best of the best from Division I schools in the northeast in the three-day competition that begins Friday. The meet will provide an opportunity for the Mountain Hawks to close out the indoor season on a high note while hoping to finish in the top eight of their events and be named All-East.
Two weeks have passed since the Mountain Hawks last competed at the Patriot League Championships at Navy. The women captured a third-place finish and three individual event titles, while the men grabbed two event wins to finish fifth.
Senior Natalie Bates and junior Gabrielle Wardle will represent Lehigh in the pentathlon at the ECAC Championships. Bates earned the pentathlon title at the Patriot League Championship meet two weeks ago with a mark of 3,458 points, while Wardle finished right behind in second place with 3,454 points. Wardle will also compete in the high jump at ECACs after taking second at the league championship meet with a leap of 1.70 meters. Wardle was named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet after earning 19 points for the Mountain Hawks. Sophomore Courtney Avery will also compete in the high jump at the ECAC Championships. Avery claimed her second-straight indoor high jump title two weeks ago with a leap of 1.75 meters. Avery earned All-East honors a season ago at the ECAC Championships.
On the track, sophomore Katie Hatler will compete in the 60 meter hurdles after finishing second in the event at the Patriot League Championships. Freshman Hanna Brosky will take on the 500 meter dash, while seniors Victoria Mullane and Ingrid Simon will compete in the 800 meter run and 1,000 meter run, respectively. Simon and Mullane will join sophomore Marissa Karl and freshman Tyler Scanlin in the 4x800 meter relay, while Simon, Scanlin, Mullane and Brosky will compete in the distance medley relay.
Freshman Trevor Knowles, who was named Rookie of the Meet at the Patriot League Championships, will represent the Lehigh men in the heptathlon at the IC4A Championships. Knowles claimed the event title at the league championship meet with 4,906 points. Fellow Patriot League champ senior Adeolu Adesida will compete in the high jump after earning All-East recognition a season ago. Sophomore Daniel Boardman will also compete in the high jump. Also partaking in the field events at the IC4A Championships will be senior Derek Gaul (long jump), sophomore Daniel Reichenbach (triple jump), senior Benjamin Beauchamp (weight throw) and sophomore Lucas Warning (shot put).
Senior Ryan Mahalsky will compete in the 5,000 meter run. He finished fifth in the event at last year's IC4A Championships to earn All-East distinction. Classmate Simon Voorhees will compete in the mile run, while seniors Mitchell Biler and Stephen Keith take on the 1,000 meter run. Sophomore Christopher Del Rossi will represent Lehigh in the 400 meter dash and senior Christopher Watson will compete in the 800 meter dash. The Mountain Hawks will be represented by Watson, Del Rossi and seniors Sebastian Nicewicz and Justin Mahoney in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Voorhees, sophomore James Clements and freshmen Ryan Grace and John Tolbert will compete in the distance medley relay.
Following this weekend's meet, the Mountain Hawks will open the outdoor season at the Philly Classic on March 21.
