BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team will head to Annapolis, Md. this weekend to compete in the three-day Patriot League Championship meet inside Navy's Wesley A. Brown Field House. The action begins Friday at 12 p.m. and will continue through Sunday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks will be searching for their first-ever Patriot League Championship.
The Mountain Hawks secured their best-ever finish at last year's indoor championship after finishing second. First-year member Boston University claimed the team crown with 210 team points and Lehigh followed with 130. Current sophomore Courtney Avery was named the Rookie of the Meet after claiming the high jump title, while former standout and current assistant coach Brooke Astor earned Field Athlete of the Meet recognition. Lehigh finished last year's meet with six individual event victories.
The Mountain Hawk women have turned out a number of successful performances, including a hard-fought 96-85 victory in the annual dual meet over Lafayette. Since then, Lehigh has recorded a number if ECAC-qualifying marks at the Armory Invitational, Geigengack Invite and Bucknell Tune-Up.
Avery will be looking to defend her high jump title and heads into the championship meet holding the top jump in the Patriot League so far this season with a leap of 1.75 meters. Junior Gabrielle Wardle holds the second-best mark in the league (1.70m), while sophomore Brittany Le Jouan (1.65m) sits tied for fourth.
