Lehigh holds at No. 11 in NWCA poll, will face No. 3 Ohio State at National Duals Finals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh wrestling team held steady at No. 11 in the latest USA Today/NWCA poll announced Tuesday. With the new poll out, quarterfinal matchups were announced for the finals of the NWCA National Duals beginning Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. The Mountain Hawks are the sixth-highest ranked team to advance to the National Duals championship finals and will meet third-ranked Ohio State in a quarterfinal Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.

The Mountain Hawks advanced to Iowa City with a 27-9 win over George Mason Saturday in the regional round of the National Duals. The Mountain Hawks started off slow against the Patriots, losing two of their first three matches, but rallied to win six of the final seven bouts, highlighted by a first period pin by junior Nathaniel Brown, a technical fall win for sophomore Elliot Riddick, and a win by major decision from junior Mason Beckman.

With the win, Lehigh (13-4) remained at No. 11 in the poll. The top five teams in the latest poll will all be participating in the National Duals championship finals including the nation's two lone remaining undefeated teams in No. 1 Iowa (15-0) and No. 2 Missouri (21-0).

Ohio State comes in at No. 3 with a 13-3 dual mark. The Buckeyes won 30-7 at No. 15 Edinboro on Sunday to punch their ticket to Iowa City. Ohio State, led by three-time national champion Logan Stieber at 141, has won nine consecutive duals including victories over top ten teams Penn State and Minnesota. The Buckeyes' three losses have come at the hands of Virginia Tech, Missouri and Iowa with the two former coming by just a single point.

Lehigh is 1-2 all-time versus Ohio State with its lone win coming in 2004. Ohio State won the first meeting in December 2001 and the most recent meeting in December 2009.

The winner of the Lehigh-Ohio State match will face the winner of No. 2 Missouri and No. 12 Illinois.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 Iowa will face Chattanooga and No. 4 Minnesota will battle No. 5 Cornell.

The four quarterfinal matches will begin at noon CT (1 p.m. ET) on Saturday from Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals at 3 p.m. CT (4 p.m. ET). The championship and third place matches are set for Sunday at 11:30 a.m. CT (12:30 p.m. ET).
