
Mountain Hawks open four-game homestand with Thanksgiving Eve contest vs. Saint Peter’s

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to continue its strong start to the season when the Mountain Hawks host Saint Peter's Wednesday evening inside Stabler Arena. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. Free video will be available on the Patriot League Network, with live audio coverage available on 91.3 WLVR FM.
The Mountain Hawks carry an unblemished 4-0 mark into the Thanksgiving Eve matchup and are coming off a dominant 83-49 victory at Delaware State Monday night. Four Mountain Hawks scored in double figures, while ten saw double digit minutes in the full team effort against the Hornets. Junior Lexi Martins led the team with her fourth double-double in as many games with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while senior Kerry Kinek also chipped in 18 points. Senior Amina Affini followed with 15 points, while classmate Elizabeth Sharlow chipped in 12. Junior Kayla Burton and sophomore Quinci Mann dished three assists apiece.
The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 46.7 percent (28-for-60) from the field and 33.3 percent (6-for-18) from three-point range. Lehigh converted 21 of its 28 attempts (75.0 percent) from the free throw line. The Mountain Hawks held Delaware State to a 32.3 (21-for-65) shooting percentage and 17.9 (5-for-28) mark from downtown. The Mountain Hawks held a commanding 53-29 rebound advantage.
Lehigh leads the Patriot League in a number of statistical categories including scoring offense (83.5 ppg), scoring margin (+24.8 ppg), free throw percentage (80.0 percent), field goal percentage (49.8 percent), field goal percentage defense (32.8 percent), rebounding offense (50.8 rpg) and rebounding margin (+18.0 rpg).
Saint Peter's carries a 1-3 record into Wednesday's contest and is coming off its first win of the season as the Peacocks defeated St. Francis Brooklyn 44-40 at home Sunday afternoon. Wednesday's game will be Saint Peter's first road game of the season. The Peacocks dropped contests to Duquesne (63-38), Navy (50-39) and Stony Brook (69-35) before earning their first win of the season over St. Francis Brooklyn. Sajanna Bethea keyed a 5-0 run for the Peacocks in the last two minutes of the game against the Terriers to solidify the win for Saint Peter's.
Marica Senatus led the Peacocks with 12 points, while Talah Hughes followed with eight. Samantha Meier pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds, while three Peacocks dished three assists apiece.
The Peacocks have been outscored by a margin of 16.5 points per game in their four contests and are averaging just 39 points per game to go along with a 32.5 field goal percentage. Saint Peter's has been outrebounded by a mark of 5.0 rebounds per game. Bethea leads the team with 7.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Lehigh is 5-0 all-time vs. the Peacocks, including a 70-58 road victory a season ago. Lehigh used a 14-2 second-half run to break a 56-56 tie and pull away from the Peacocks in last season's meeting on Nov. 25 to earn the victory.
Martins tallied her fourth double-double in as many games as the forward notched 22 points to go along with ten rebounds. Quinci Mann followed with 14 points and a career-high five rebounds. Kinek also recorded a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 41.4 percent (24-for-58) from the field, highlighted by a 46.4 percent (13-for-28) second-half clip. The Mountain Hawk defense held Saint Peter's to a 36.8 percentage (21-for-57) from the field and 4-for-15 showing from downtown. Lehigh held a 44-36 rebound advantage and forced 15 Saint Peter's turnovers compared to its own 11.
Following Wednesday's matchup, the Mountain Hawks will host the Christmas City Classic on Saturday and Sunday inside Stabler Arena. Lehigh will welcome Montana, Villanova and Drexel for the four-game tournament that will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Mountain Hawks open up tournament action against Montana at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
