
Redfern announces 2016 women’s lacrosse schedule

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head women's lacrosse coach Jill Redfern announced the team's 2016 schedule on Friday, which includes two teams coming off National Quarterfinal appearances. The Mountain Hawks play ten home games and six road contests, beginning the season by hosting Penn State, which kicks off a five-game homestand.
Lehigh begins the regular season by welcoming on Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 13. Last season, the Nittany Lions finished 16-5, defeating Johns Hopkins and Virginia in the NCAA Tournament before dropping a tight game to eventual National Finalist North Carolina.
The Mountain Hawks continue their homestand on Sunday, Feb. 21 against Yale. Lehigh then remains home for the next two Saturdays, vs. Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 27 and Iona on Mar. 5.
Lehigh hits the road for the first time on Mar. 12, heading to Liberty of the Big South before traveling to Davidson of the Atlantic 10 on the 15th. The Mountain Hawks will return home on Saturday, Mar. 19 for their Patriot League opener against Holy Cross. The game marks the first of four straight league contests. Lehigh welcomes American on Mar. 26 before heading to Navy for a midweek tilt on Mar. 30 and traveling to Boston on Apr. 2.
The Mountain Hawks go out-of-league for an Apr. 5 home showdown against Rutgers out of the Big Ten. Last season, Lehigh earned an impressive 10-8 victory at Rutgers in front of a nationally-televised audience on the Big Ten Network. After facing the Scarlet Knights, the Mountain Hawks remain home for an Apr. 9 meeting against their newest Patriot League foe Army West Point, a first-year program.
The final four regular season games feature alternating road and home games, beginning with an Apr. 16 showdown at defending league champion and National Quarterfinalist Loyola. Lehigh then hosts archrival Lafayette on Wednesday, Apr. 20 before traveling to Colgate (Apr. 23) and hosting Bucknell (Apr. 29) in the regular season finale.
The Patriot League Tournament begins the following week with the Quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 3, Semifinals on Friday, May 6 and Championship Game on Sunday, May 8.
The Mountain Hawks wrapped up a strong 2015 season highlighted by a seven-game road winning streak, a road win against Rutgers in front of a nationally-televised audience and the team's second straight postseason appearance. Lehigh's defense was especially strong as the Mountain Hawks finished the season 9-8 and earned the #5 seed in the Patriot League Tournament.
