BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey will play its final games at the Ulrich Sports Complex this weekend when the Mountain Hawks host No. 17 Boston University and Lock Haven. Lehigh will take on BU on Saturday and conclude the weekend by welcoming Lock Haven Sunday. Both games are slated for 12 p.m. starts. On Sunday, the Mountain Hawks will honor seniors Erin Ricker, Alex Beatson, Caitlin Bryan, Zoey Pacheco, Lindsey Schott, Taylor Mygatt, and Kat Kneizys before their final home games in the Brown and White. Both of this weekend's games will be available on the Patriot League Network.
Lehigh enters Saturday with a mark of 3-9, but the Mountain Hawks have won two of their last three games including a 3-1 victory at Sacred Heart on Tuesday. Freshman Teresa Carotenuto tallied a pair of goals and junior Marissa Glatt added a goal of her own to anchor the Lehigh attack. Junior Julia Ward picked up four saves in the win while junior Janelle High made a pair of defensive saves. The Mountain Hawks are still in search of their first Patriot League victory of the season, coming ever so close in their three league games thus far, taking American to overtime, leading 2-1 into the second half at Bucknell and standing tied at one late into the contest vs. Lafayette.
Carotenuto has put together an impressive freshman season. She is tied for the lead in the Patriot League in goals (9) and has picked up Rookie of the Week honors twice this season. Eight of Carotenuto's nine goals have come over their past five games. Meanwhile, Ward ranks second in the league in saves per game with 5.45. Ward has also tallied a .645 save percentage and 3.12 goals against average.
The Terriers will look to build on their Patriot League success so far as they enter Saturday's game with an unblemished 4-0 record in league play and 9-4 mark overall. BU is coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to No. 4 Duke in overtime last weekend. The Terriers' high-powered offense is led by junior Bea Baumberger Altirriba. The Barcelona, Spain native is tied for first in the Patriot League in points with 20. Baumberger Altirriba is one of four Terriers in the top 10 in the league for points. Junior Hester van deer Laan (16), senior Sofi Laurito (13), and freshman Ally Hammel (13) are all among the league leaders in points. Junior goalkeeper Cammy Jensen sits atop the league with a 1.79 goals against average.
Lehigh is looking for its first victory over BU since joining the Patriot League in 2013. The Terriers lead the all-time series 2-0.
Lock Haven will look to build off an impressive 13-2 mark heading into the weekend, which includes a trip to Lehigh on Saturday. This comes after a Friday matchup at Saint Francis (Pa.). Lock Haven is riding a six-game winning streak and have yet to lose a nonconference game this season. The Bald Eagles defeated Penn State 1-0 in their last game, marking their first win over the Nittany Lions since 1985. Senior Rachel Valentine leads the Atlantic 10 conference with 12 goals, which is tied for sixth in the nation. Freshmen Alyscia Smith and Tamia Roach have eclipsed double-figure points as well, tallying 13 (four goals, five assists) and 11 (four goals, three assists), respectively. Lock Haven's defense has been stellar this season as the Bald Eagles rank second in the country with a team goals against average of 0.70.
The Bald Eagles defeated the Mountain Hawks 4-0 last fall to improve their all-time mark to 7-1 against Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks did defeat Lock Haven 2-1 in 2013 which saw Pacheco score the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining in the second half.
After this weekend, the Mountain Hawks will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Colgate in the first of a four-game road trip to close out the 2015 regular season. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. from Tyler's Field.
