BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Seniors KK Sauve and Maddie Kandra found the back of the cage, but the Lehigh field hockey team came up a goal short against a tough VCU squad with the visiting Rams claiming a 3-2 victory Sunday at Ulrich Field. VCU's Morena Macera scored twice to put VCU ahead for good.

VCU (11-3) opened the scoring nearly six minutes into the second quarter when Lina Behrmann scored on a feed from Josefina Ventimiglia following a Ram corner.

Lehigh tied the game less than three minutes later. On a Mountain Hawk corner, senior Kiki Mes slid a pass across the circle to Sauve, who netted her first goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1.
It took just 43 seconds for VCU to go back in front as Macera scored with an assist to Ventimiglia, giving the Rams a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Macera scored again 2:39 into the third quarter with Behrmann and Ventimiglia assisting to give VCU a 3-1 advantage.

Kandra scored when she redirected a shot from sophomore Jordan Kells with just under seven minutes remaining, bringing Lehigh within one.
Lehigh earned a penalty corner with just over two minutes to play, but senior Lela Boermeester redirected Mes' shot attempt over the cage.

VCU had a 23-7 advantage in shots and a 10-3 edge in penalty corners.

Junior Kate Burgess made 10 saves for the Mountain Hawks. Emma Clements made two saves for VCU.

Lehigh concludes a three-game home stand next weekend when the Mountain Hawks host American Friday at 6 p.m. and then Rider Sunday at noon.
