BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh field hockey earned a 2-1 victory over Hofstra on Sunday afternoon at home, securing its first win since the start of a challenging stretch.

The Mountain Hawks got off to a strong start, with Kristina Johnson opening the scoring just 5:26 into the contest. Johnson finished a pass from Ella Stephenson to give Lehigh an early 1-0 advantage. The Mountain Hawks maintained their lead through the first half, putting five shots on goal and earning five penalty corners over the opening 30 minutes.

Hofstra evened the score at 1-1 midway through the third quarter, as Sarah Smalley found the back of the net at 37:49. Lehigh responded less than a minute later, with Leela Asfor scoring the eventual game-winner at 38:48. Katie McCaffrey assisted on the goal, helping the Mountain Hawks regain the lead at 2-1.

Lehigh continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, finishing with 19 shots, including 13 on goal, and nine penalty corners. The Mountain Hawks also came up with key defensive stops to preserve their advantage in the fourth quarter.
"We have been focusing on the small growth that we've made each and every game. The past two games we've had a lot more attacking opportunities," Lehigh head coach Corey Mayer said. "We've stepped up defensively, so it's just looking to be very short term focused and continue on to whatever game is in front of us."

Goalkeeper Kate Burgess made three saves in the contest, helping Lehigh limit Hofstra to one goal on four shots on target.

Sunday's matchup also marked Senior Day for the Mountain Hawks, providing an opportunity to recognize Lehigh's seniors and celebrate their contributions to the program. The victory gave Lehigh a meaningful result on its home field as the team looks to build on the momentum moving forward. Thank you to our 7 seniors Annie Bibus, Nola Ryder, Aubrey Ide, Georgia Reynolds, Ella Stephenson, Gracen Brant, and Kate Burgess!

"We look to build off of the standard, build off the work ethic, and the 60 minutes of hockey that we're playing. Just look to control the things that we can in our A25 and our D25," Mayer said.

The Mountain Hawks travel to Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 31 to face American at 12 p.m. for their final game of the season.
