Mountain Hawks Fall 2-0 at Holy Cross Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. – Lehigh dropped a 2-0 decision to Holy Cross Saturday morning at the Hart Turf Field. The Mountain Hawks held a 15-14 edge in shots and a 10-6 edge in corners, but the Crusaders tallied goals in the first and third quarters to claim the league victory.
 
Maguire Sturgis opened the scoring with an unassisted tally just over nine minutes into the opening period.
 
Lehigh out-shot Holy Cross 5-1 in the second quarter and had a 3-0 corner advantage, but the Mountain Hawks were unable to find a tying goal.
 
Holy Cross doubled its lead 12 minutes into the third quarter when Saskia Williams scored on a feed from Sturgis after a Crusader corner.
 
Senior Kiki Mes led the Mountain Hawks with four shots Saturday, while four other players had two shots.
 
In goal, junior Kate Burgess made four saves. Mia McCloskey finished with seven for Holy Cross.
 
The loss drops Lehigh to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League. Holy Cross improves to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the league.
 
The Mountain Hawks return home to host VCU Sunday at 1 p.m.
