Lehigh resumes action this weekend at Army 5-Way

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh track and field teams will head to West Point, N.Y. this weekend for their first competition in over a month at the Army 5-Way. The Mountain Hawks look to build upon the solid foundation that was set in the season-opening Fast Times Before Finals meet with their sights set on Patriot League Championships that are just seven weeks away.
Lehigh will face the host Black Knights, in addition to Loyola (women), Manhattan (men), Marist and Rider. Multi events will start Friday at noon, with the pentathlon wrapping up Friday and the heptathlon finishing Saturday. Saturday's action will begin at 9 a.m. from Gillis Field House.
The Lehigh men's team began its season with impressive performances, including four first-place performances, at the season-opening meet inside Rauch Field House on Dec. 5-6. Senior Adeolu Adesida won the high jump with a 2.05 meter leap and freshman Trevor Knowles captured the heptathlon with 4,609 points in his first college meet. Lehigh's 4 x 800 meter relay team also crossed the line in first place with a time of 8:27.99. Adding to the winning mix, senior Mitchell Biler captured first place in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:32.68.
Three first-place finishes highlighted the women's season-opening effort at the Fast Times Before Finals meet. Lehigh's 4x800 meter relay squad took first and second place, while sophomore Courtney Avery won the high jump with a 1.65 meter leap. Junior Gabrielle Wardle also posted a first place finish in the pentathlon with 3,434 points, with senior Natalie Bates finishing second.
The Mountain Hawk women finished first at last season's Army 4-Way while the men finished fourth. The women finished with seven first-place finishes en route to the meet title.
Following this weekend's action, Lehigh returns home for its next two meets. The Mountain Hawks will host the Angry Birds Invitational on Jan. 17 before taking on archrival Lafayette on Jan. 24 inside Rauch Field House.
