BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head women's lacrosse coach Jill Redfern announced on Thursday that assistant coach Shannon McHugh has been promoted to associate head coach. McHugh recently finished her second season on the sidelines after a standout career at Cornell. As first assistant during the 2014 season, she helped lead Lehigh back to the Patriot League Tournament.

"I am proud to announce that Shannon McHugh will be our associate head coach," said Redfern. "Shannon is a bright and talented young coach who has earned this promotion. Her passion for the game of lacrosse as well as her ambition for building a nationally-recognized program is obvious. She is also an excellent mentor and role model for the type of student-athletes who are choosing our lacrosse program and university."

A midfielder at Cornell, McHugh coached Patriot League Rookie of the Year Allison LaBeau who recently participated in U.S. National Team tryouts. In her playing career, McHugh posted 71 career goals, earning honorable mention All-Ivy League as a junior and second team honors as a senior. McHugh joined the Lehigh coaching staff for the 2013 season.

The Mountain Hawks finished 4-4 in league play this past season and advanced to its first Patriot League Tournament since 2011. The team also defeated Boston University 12-11 in double overtime to hand the Terriers their first-ever Patriot League loss. Five Mountain Hawks earned All-Patriot League recognition with four returning in 2015.
