BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks placed nine student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for women's swimming and diving as announced Tuesday. Freshman Kaitlyn Ruffing, Patriot League Champion in the 100 yard freestyle, led Lehigh in the classroom with a 3.93 grade point average in biology in the spring semester.
Following close behind Ruffing was sophomore Courtney Patterson majoring in business and junior Madeleine Smith who is majoring in cognitive science. Both student-athletes achieved a 3.82 GPA.
Patterson earned Academic All-Patriot League honors in February adding those laurels to her first team All-Patriot League honors. The league champion in the 400 yard individual medley, Patterson set school records in three events at the league championships.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's winter or spring championship sports.
Other Mountain Hawks honored include juniors Mary Caitlin Samuels and Kimberly Weyand, sophomores Rebekah Campo and Abigail Pires and freshmen Kelly Carroll and Cora Summerfield.
The ten Patriot League institutions combined for a total of 149 Academic Honor Roll selections in women's swimming and diving. Navy's Lauren Bradford was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year back in February.
Lehigh finished fifth at the Patriot League Championships, following a 7-2 dual meet season.
