BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After enjoying success at the Dad Vail Regatta last weekend, the Lehigh women's rowing team wraps up its season at the Patriot League Championships on Friday. The event is being hosted by Holy Cross. Racing begins at 8 a.m. on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Â
"This group has had Patriots as their big target all year," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "They have raised the bar of the team and are looking to see themselves on the medal stand in each event."
Â
Last weekend, the Women's Varsity Eight reached the Dad Vail Regatta semifinals. The Mountain Hawks finished sixth at last year's Patriot League Championships.
Â
"With the league expanding, the expectations across the league have increased in terms of the speed necessary to win," said Conley. "I think the women have definitely raised the bar in terms of our boat speed consistently throughout the year and are looking to see themselves finish where no one else expects them... hoisting the championship trophy."
Â
This year's championships have expanded and included several heats for each event along with petite finals and grand finale.
Â
"This is the big race we train for all year," said Conley. "A lot of teams will take it easy before any of their races throughout the year. We have trained right on through for the Patriot League Championships. I know they are ready for the challenge because we set standards this year in every part of our training from ergs, lifting, intrasquad competition and on the water.Â
Â
"We know we need our best race and the great thing about this group is that every time they touch a boat and go out to race, they have consistently made it their best," Conley continued. "I expect them to have their best race and move our boat faster than ever before. It's what we have to do and what we know we have to do."
