Mountain Hawks finish seventh at Patriot League Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Lehigh women's rowing team wrapped up its season at the Patriot League Championships on Friday, finishing in seventh place with 18 points. The Mountain Hawks were just three points behind sixth-place Holy Cross and ahead of Colgate (17 points) and Loyola (six points). Lehigh's Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four each reached the grand finals to lead the charge.

"I thought overall, it was a good day for the team," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "We definitely could have done better in the Varsity Eight race, but I think the rest of the team stepped up. We know what we need to do better next year."

The setup was different than past Patriot League Championships with morning heats followed by grand finals and petite finals.
Â
"I think it created a feel of a true championship where it's not one and done," said Conley. "We've prepared for it well throughout the year, but we still have a lot of work to do."

The Second Varsity Eight came in third in its heat with a time of 7:55.83 before coming in sixth in the finals (8:09.38). Meanwhile, the Varsity Four came in third (9:41.45) before also placing sixth in the finals (9:19.95).

"I think both the Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Four did well," said Conley. "They put themselves in the grand finals. They showed that hard work pays off."

The Varsity Eight came in fourth in its morning heat with a time of 7:54.79 before placing second in the petite finals (7:59.72).

Lehigh has taken big strides forward this season, as has the league.
Â
"Where we finished up last year is a similar results in the end, but we featured a much deeper team than we've ever had before," said Conley. "The league has gotten faster, as have we. It's created a competitive league, which we're excited it."
