Avery earns Patriot League Rookie of the Week recognition

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's track and field freshman Courtney Avery has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon. The Wynantskill, N.Y. native picks up her first outdoor league honor after earning a record-tying three Rookie of the Week awards during the indoor season.
Avery claimed the high jump title in the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet on Saturday with a leap of 1.65m. The first-place finish helped the Mountain Hawks defeat the Leopards 107-96 as the women captured their third outdoor dual win in the past five years and also completed the season sweep of the Leopards.
Senior Brooke Astor garnered honorable mention recognition after winning four events to lead the Mountain Hawks to the win. Astor's four victories were highlighted by an ECAC qualifying long jump of 5.84m. On the men's side, senior Benjamin Beauchamp picked up honorable mention recognition following an IC4A qualifying toss of 50.11m in the discus throw that earned him first place.
Avery and the Mountain Hawks return to action Friday and Saturday at Moravian's Coach Pollard Invitational and the Bucknell Bison Classic.
