BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A tight race is expected between Lehigh and Boston University, when the Mountain Hawks host the Patriot League Championship at Saucon Valley Country Club later this month. The Mountain Hawks and Terriers tied for the top spot in the Patriot League women's golf poll announced Thursday.
Lehigh claimed the inaugural Patriot League Women's Golf Championship last year as the Mountain Hawks held off host Bucknell by just three strokes to win last year in Lewisburg. The Mountain Hawks will be challenged by the Patriot League newcomers from Boston, which has claimed all three player of the month awards so far this season. Both schools garnered 28 points in the poll, which is voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors, but the Terriers claimed six first place votes compared to Lehigh's four.
Last year's runner-up Bucknell finished third in the poll with 22 points. The Bison were followed by Navy (12 points) and Holy Cross (10).
Lehigh has three spring tournaments under its belt highlighted by a first place finish at the Warner University Golf Classic Invitational in early March. Last weekend the Mountain Hawks competed at the Hoya Invitational, finishing in 14th place.
Next up for the Mountain Hawks is a trip to the Red Flash Invitational, April 14-15 in Loretto, Pa. Lehigh will host the Patriot League Championship April 19-20 on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
