Team awards announced at end-of-year banquet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's basketball team held its annual Charles F. '38 and Marie Zell Basketball Banquet Saturday evening in the Tower Room on Lehigh's Mountaintop Campus. The dinner included remarks from the senior class, an awards ceremony and special highlight video as the Mountain Hawks took time to reflect on the past season.
Sophomore Kerry Kinek earned the team's Outstanding Athlete Award, given to the player who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. The forward was Lehigh's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Kinek has tallied 859 points and 479 rebounds through her two years at Lehigh and is on track to become the sixth member of Lehigh's 1,000 point/500 rebound club. The sophomore earned third team All-Patriot League recognition at the end of the season.
Senior Hilary Weaver was awarded the Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, which is awarded to the player who exemplified the idea of scholar-athlete in the eyes of his or her teammates. A design arts major with a mass communications minor, Weaver has tallied a 3.53 grade point average throughout her time at Lehigh. The point guard was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every year of her Mountain Hawk career.
The Coaches Award, given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership, was awarded to senior Lindsay Hoskins. The co-captain was a key player for the Mountain Hawks this season, averaging 4.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, but was also one of the undisputed leaders of a young Mountain Hawk squad.
The sixth man award, given to an individual or group of people who have made a major impact on the program, was presented to Matt Markus, the team's radio play-by-play announcer. The voice of Lehigh women's basketball, Markus has broadcast every home and away game for the last four seasons.
The Mountain Hawks finished the 2014 season with a 13-18 overall record.
