Mountain Hawks complete Philadelphia Classic to begin outdoor season

PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh women's track and field team wrapped up its season-opening meet at the Philadelphia College Classic Saturday on Penn's Franklin Field. The Mountain Hawks competed against teams from around the Philadelphia region including Villanova, La Salle, Saint Joseph's and Penn.
Senior Jessica Kendzor ran 800 meters in 2:14.34 to claim first place in the event. Classmate Danielle Albergo placed second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with respective times of 12.85 and 25.69. Freshman Kaitlyn Ruffing, a member of Lehigh's swimming and diving team who won the Patriot League title in the 100 freestyle, made her track debut and placed fifth in both the 200 (26.60) and 400 meter (1:00.52) dashes.
Junior Serenah Polite was Lehigh's highest finisher in the 100 meter hurdles, placing third with a time of 15.18. Polite also placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.17m. Junior Babette Hohrath placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a clip of 1:06.65 to lead Lehigh in the event.
Freshman Courtney Wu finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.03m. Junior Carly Deskins placed third in the javelin with a throw of 41.33m. Sophomore Gabrielle Wardle was Lehigh's highest finisher in the high jump, placing third with a mark of 1.55m.
The Mountain Hawks head to the Winthrop Invite and Lafayette Seven-Way next weekend.
