Mountain Hawks head to Winthrop and Lafayette this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will send athletes to the Winthrop Invitational and Lafayette Seven-Way this weekend. The Winthrop Invitational will take place Thursday-Saturday with the multi events kicking off competition at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Lafayette Seven-Way we be held Saturday at the Leopards' Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off a solid performance at the Philadelphia College Classic last weekend which served as the outdoor season opener. Senior Patrick Ciez and freshman Anthony Galantini recorded IC4A qualifying marks in the high jump and javelin, respectively, while senior Jessica Kendzor finished atop the podium in the 800 meter run.
At last year's Winthrop Invitational, Jimil Ataman broke a school record in the hammer throw to claim first place in the event. Brooke Astor earned the top spot in the heptathlon with 4,858 points. The women finished fifth at last season's Lafayette Seven-Way, led by Kenzor's second-place finish in the 400 meter dash and the second place 4x400 meter relay squad.
The men's team was led by Ryan Paquin's first-place finish in the decathlon at last year's Winthrop Invite. The Mountain Hawks impressed in other field events as well, including Ryan Rhodes in the shotput, Benjamin Beauchamp in the discus and Adeolu Adesida in the high jump. Lehigh finished in fifth at last season's Lafayette Seven-Way, led by strong sprint performance from Justin Mahoney and Martin Otieno.
Following this weekend's meets, the Mountain Hawks will take on archrival Lafayette in the annual outdoor dual meet on April 5 in Easton.
