RALEIGH, N.C. – Lehigh men's track and field senior Tyler Mueller set a new school record in the 10,000 meter race late Friday night to highlight Lehigh's busy weekend on the track. The Mountain Hawks split up between the Raleigh Relays, Winthrop Invitational and Lafayette Eight-Way Thursday through Saturday.

"The kids always look forward to these meets because they get to go somewhere warm with pleasant conditions," said head coach Matt Utesch. "It may have been warm, but it was rainy and the conditions were not what the kids looked forward to. Many people would throw in the towel, but our kids didn't do that.

"They came out and showed their character and ran the best they've ever run," continued Utesch. "I'm so proud of them for that and it says a lot about the type of people we have in this program."

Mueller set a new Lehigh record in the 10,000 meter run at the Raleigh Relays after finishing the race in an IC4A qualifying time of 29:19.76, which was good for fourth place in the highest-seeded heat. The Pottstown, Pa. native bested his previous school record of 29:54.25 that was set during the 2013 outdoor season. Junior Ryan Mahalsky (29:39.33) and senior Jimmy Miller (30:26.32) followed in 13th and 28th place, respectively, while each smashing their previous personal records and qualifying for the IC4A Championships. Saturday morning, senior Ryan Knouse followed up with a first-place finish in the event's third-seeded heat with an IC4A qualifying time of 31:05.16.

"Those guys are all in excellent shape to make it to the first round of national championships," said Utesch. "They keep getting better and better. They're sort of on autopilot at this point and if they can stay healthy then I feel very confident about how they'll help us at the league championship meet."

Junior Christopher Watson led the way for the Mountain Hawks at the Winthrop Invitational after claiming the 800 meter with a time of 1:53.12. Senior Martin Otieno placed fifth in the 200 meter dash preliminary race on Friday with a time of 22.36 to qualify for Saturday's event final where he placed fifth with a mark of 22.26. Freshman Christopher Del Rossi finished ninth out of 49 competitors in the 400 meter dash preliminary race with a new personal-best mark of 49.59 seconds.

Senior Patrick Ciez jumped an IC4A qualifying 2.05m in the high jump to claim second place. Junior Andrew Culkin finished second in the decathlon with a total of 5,085 points. Freshman Anthony Galantini finished tied for second in the javelin throw after a heave of 53.67m. Senior Benjamin Beauchamp grabbed third in the discus (48.85m) and sixth in the hammer throw (48.79m) Freshman Lucas Warning recorded a new personal record in the shot put with a launch of 15.37m that was good for fourth place. Freshman Daniel Boardman claimed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.44m.

At the Lafayette Eight-Way Saturday, junior Stephen Keith finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a new personal-best time of 9:57.34. The Mountain Hawks took places five through seven in the 800 meter run, led by junior Simon Voorhees' time of 1:59.36. Freshman Ryan Cooney ran 3000 meters in 8:55.93 to grab fifth place. Senior John Ciavardelli finished seventh in the 400 meter dash with a clip of 52.27.

The Mountain Hawks head to Easton next Saturday to face archrival Lafayette in the annual outdoor dual meet.
