Mountain Hawks fall 7-0 to visiting Fairleigh Dickinson

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team faced another strong opponent Saturday and visiting Fairleigh Dickinson handed the Mountain Hawks a 7-0 setback inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Knights won both doubles matches that finished and swept six singles matches dropping just one set on the day. Lehigh falls to 1-3 with the loss, while FDU is now 2-1.
On Friday FDU lost 5-2 to the same Rutgers team that blanked Lehigh 7-0 on Tuesday.
In doubles action the Knights took a 1-0 lead with 6-2 wins at the top two flights. The match at No. 3 doubles was not finished.
Fairleigh Dickinson continued its strong showing in singles with wins at the No.1, No. 2 and No. 4 flights to clinch the match.
Freshman Cassidy Cruz was a bright spot for Lehigh as she took the first set from Gisela Castany at No. 3 singles, but Castany won the second set 6-4 and won a third set ten point tiebreak 10-3. The bottom two singles flights were contested as eight game pro sets with Mariya Krachok winning 8-3 over sophomore Ali Kaminetsky at No. 5 singles, and Manu Leme winning 8-2 over senior Jill Sloand at the No. 6 flight.
The Mountain Hawks will host two matches next weekend, as they will take on Towson Saturday at 11 a.m. and Mount St. Mary's Sunday at 10 a.m.
