Lehigh welcomes Army for midweek matchup

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team aims to string together back-to-back wins for the first time since December when the second-place Black Knights enter Stabler Arena Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game can be viewed live on Service Electric 2 Sports in the Lehigh Valley or for free online via the Patriot League network. Fans can also listen live on 91.3 WLVR-FM or wlvr.org.

The Mountain Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak in their most recent game Saturday against Boston University, 67-54. The win was Lehigh's first-ever over Boston University, as the Mountain Hawks were also able to remain undefeated when hosting a pink game.

The Mountain Hawk defense allowed a season-low 54 points from the Terriers, as BU finished the game shooting 32.1 percent (18-for-56) from the field, 27.3 percent (6-for-22) from three-point range and just 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from the charity stripe. Lehigh shot 40.0 percent (24-for-60) from the floor and converted 16 of its 24 free throw attempts.

Sophomore Elizabeth Sharlow tallied her second career double-double with 14 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. Junior Sarah Williams tallied 12 points and a team-leading six assists, while sophomore Kerry Kinek posted 11 points.Â

Second-place Army will be looking to win its fifth straight game Wednesday night, as the Black Knights vie for their ninth league win. Army is 5-5 on the road this season, compared to its undefeated 11-0 home record.

The Black Knights and Loyola took their contest to overtime for the second-straight meeting on Saturday. Army overcame a 10-point deficit in the first half and outscored Loyola, 14-3, in the extra session to pick up a 56-45 overtime victory at Christl Arena.

Sophomore Kelsey Minato led all scorers with 18 points, while tallying five rebounds and three assists. Classmate Aimee Oertner posted 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and collected a game-high seven boards, three blocks and three steals. Sophomore Jean Parker hit a pair of three-pointers to finish with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Minato is the league's leading scorer, averaging 20.6 points per game, and is the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week. She also leads the league in free throw percentage (91.3) and ranks second in three-point field goal percentage (41.9). Jen Hazlett leads the Black Knights with 6.8 rebounds per game and ranks third in the league in three-point shooting percentage (40.0).

Army's scoring margin (+10.0) leads the league, as does its three-point shooting percentage (37.8) and rebounding margin (+7.1).

Army claimed the first meeting of the season, 74-63, in West Point, N.Y. Following a 14-point halftime deficit, the Mountain Hawks were able to narrow the Black Knight lead to five points midway through the closing half, but Army held on to claim the win and remain undefeated at home.

Williams led the Mountain Hawks with 13 points, followed by Kinek with 11. Army's Hazlett scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Minato followed with 17 points.
