Kinek named Patriot League Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's basketball junior Kerry Kinek has been named the Patriot League Player of the Week after leading Lehigh to victories over Hampton and Saint Joseph's, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Kinek averaged a double-double with 16.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game to help Lehigh to a 7-0 record, its best start since the 1984-85 season. The Whitehall, Pa. native posted a season-best 22 points and 19 rebounds to help lift Lehigh over five-time defending MEAC champion Hampton Tuesday on Education Day inside Stabler Arena. Twelve of Kinek's points against the Lady Pirates came from the charity stripe, while the junior also contributed three assists, a block and a steal.
The forward followed up Tuesday's performance with an 11-point effort at Saint Joseph's Thursday as the Mountain Hawks picked up a 73-71 victory in Philadelphia. Kinek also contributed six rebounds, three assists and two steals against the Hawks, who have made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in the last two years following a three-year stint in the WNIT.
Kinek has scored in double-figures in every game this season and ranks fifth in the Patriot League in scoring (14.7 ppg) and third in rebounding (9.1 rpg). This is the first Patriot League Player of the Week award of the season for Kinek and the third of her career.
Kinek and the Mountain Hawks are in the midst of a 16-day break from game action for Lehigh's final exam period. Lehigh heads to the ASU Classic on Dec. 20 and 21 to take on host Arizona State and Eastern Illinois/Northwestern. Live audio coverage will be available on 91.3 WLVR and wlvr.org.
