2015 Schedule
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head women's lacrosse coach Jill Redfern has announced the team's 2015 schedule on Friday, which includes 16 game - seven home and nine on the road including four reigning NCAA Tournament teams. The Mountain Hawks open their season at Penn State on Feb. 14 before returning home to host UC Davis in their home opener on Feb. 20. Lehigh's Patriot League opener is set for Mar. 6 at Bucknell.
"We are excited for this upcoming season," said Redfern. "Our schedule provides some traditional opponents as well as some new challenges. We are looking forward to competing at a high level each time we take the field this spring."
The Mountain Hawks kick off their season at intrastate rival Penn State on Feb. 14. The teams didn't play last season, but had played five straight years from 2009-13 including two straight one-goal games (in 2010 and 2011).
Lehigh will return home to play three straight games, welcoming UC Davis on Friday, Feb. 20, Niagara on the 22nd and Fairfield on the 28th. The Mountain Hawks then go right into Patriot League play, traveling to Bucknell on Friday, Mar. 6 to face the Bison. Lehigh will be searching for its fifth straight win over Bucknell.
After the league opener, the Mountain Hawks will travel to Jacksonville, Florida to face the Dolphins who are coming off a 14-6 season and an Atlantic Sun Championship in just their fifth season as a program.
Lehigh returns to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday, Mar. 14 to face Colgate in a big Patriot League matchup. The Mountain Hawks head to archrival Lafayette on Wednesday, Mar. 18 before welcoming defending league champion Loyola on the 21st.
Lehigh will then hit the road for three straight games, at Mount St. Mary's on Mar. 24, defending NEC Champion Bryant on the 28th and Rutgers on the 31st. Lehigh and Rutgers haven't played since 1997 as the Mountain Hawks are riding an eight-game winning streak against the Scarlet Knights.
The Mountain Hawks wrap up their season with four straight Patriot League games, hosting Boston University and Navy on Apr. 4 and 8 before heading to American (Apr. 12) and Holy Cross (Apr. 17) to close out the regular season. Lehigh is eying its second straight Patriot League Tournament appearance. The tournament format is the same as last season, with the top two seeds earning first-round byes while the #3 seed hosts #6 and #4 hosts #5 on Tuesday, April 21. The advancing teams head to the overall #1 seed for the semifinals and championship game.
The Mountain Hawks look to build on their strong season in 2014 which featured a 4-4 league record and return trip to the NCAA Tournament. The team also defeated Boston University 12-11 in double overtime to hand the Terriers their first-ever Patriot League loss. Five Mountain Hawks earned All-Patriot League recognition with four returning in 2015 to go with eight new freshmen.
