Mountain Hawks host first-place BU in key league battle Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team returns to the Ulrich Sports Complex Saturday at 7 p.m. to host Boston University for an important Patriot League showdown. The Terriers sit atop the league with nine points and a 3-0 record while Lehigh is tied for second with six points and a 2-1 record. The game can be viewed for free on the Patriot League Network.
The Mountain Hawks, 6-4 overall, look to rebound after suffering their first Patriot League loss of the season Wednesday night at rival Lafayette. The Leopards scored a goal in each half on the way to a 2-0 victory. Lehigh began Patriot League play two weeks ago with a 2-1 win over then 14th-ranked American before picking up a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Bucknell.
Junior Jamie Luchini leads the squad offensively with ten points behind four goals and a pair of assists. Freshman Doyle Tuvesson follows with three goals and an assist, good for seven points. Juniors Brian Vail and Austin Decker, along with senior Ali Famili, have also scored goals for Lehigh this season. The defense has been strongly anchored by Vail and sophomore Justin Worley. In goal, senior keeper Ciaran Nugent has tallied a 4.00 saves per game average to go along with a 0.783 save percentage.
Boston University, 7-2-1 overall, will be looking to extend its unbeaten streak to seven games Saturday night. The Terriers picked up a 1-0 win at Holy Cross Wednesday thanks to a goal from senior Jordan Barker in the 44th minute. BU has also claimed league wins over Navy (2-1) and Army (2-0) as the Terriers sit atop the Patriot League with nine points. The Terriers haven't lost since a 1-0 defeat to Brown on Sept. 7 and the team's six-game unbeaten streak is the longest since 2010.
Dominique Badji leads the Terriers offensively with 12 points behind five goals and a pair of assists. Barker, David Asbjornsson and Lucas McBride have all scored two goals apiece. Nick Thomson has seen all the time in net this season and has accumulated a 0.58 GAA and .850 save percentage to go along with 34 saves.
Saturday's contest will be just the third meeting between Lehigh and Boston University. BU has won both previous meetings, including a 1-0 win in Boston a season ago. The Terriers' McBride scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute.
Following Saturday's contest, Lehigh heads to Maryland for a non-league matchup Wednesday before remaining on the road to face Loyola on Saturday Oct. 18.
