Four Mountain Hawks garner Second-Team All-Patriot League honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following the 2013 season, junior Joe Ablen, sophomore John Elson, sophomore Justin Pacchioli and senior Casey Turner were selected to the All-Patriot League Second Team it was announced Tuesday. Abeln was an outfielder on last year's second team, but the other three Lehigh players earned a spot on the prestigious squad for the first time in their careers.
Abeln started all 47 games for Lehigh this season, splitting time behind the plate, in the outfield and as the designated hitter. The Allentown, Pa., native batted .333 in Patriot League play while posting 28 RBI, 61 total bases and seven stolen bases. His .985 fielding percentage was second highest on the team. Abeln went a season-best 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in four runs in Lehigh's series opener against rival Lafayette on March 30.Elson, the Mountain Hawks' starting shortstop, had a .284 batting average and hit .324 in league play. His 183 at bats were most on the team this spring and his 52 hits were tied for second. He hit a pair of home runs, drove in a team-high 29 runs and swiped 12 bases. Elson had a season-best five hits, three runs and four RBI in a 19-10 pounding of Patriot League foe Army on April 7.
After playing in 39 games this season, Pacchioli racked up the highest batting average in the Patriot League at .366. He ended up tied for the league lead in triples with five, third in slugging percentage (.507) and fourth in on base percentage (.441). He went 11-12 in stolen base attempts. Pacchioli's best game this season came in a rain-shortened contest against Delaware State in which he hit 4-for-4, scored three runs and had one RBI.
Batting in the two hole for Lehigh this season, Turner completed his final season with a .337 batting average, including .388 in Patriot League contests. He drew 25 walks and led the Mountain Hawks with 16 stolen bases. Turner was third in the league this season in runs scored and fourth in hits with 40 and 58, respectively. In three seasons at Lehigh, he has amassed a .301 career batting average alongside 31 doubles and 60 RBI.All four players helped lead the Brown and White to an 18-29 overall record that included 5-15 in Patriot League action. The Mountain Hawks were in contention for the final spot in the tournament heading into their final regular season series against Navy on April 27.
