Ataman and Lemon to compete at NCAA East Regional

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Junior Jimil Ataman and senior E'lana Lemon will represent the Lehigh women's track and field team at the NCAA East Regional, it was announced Thursday. They will compete in the hammer throw at 10 a.m. May 24 at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track.
At No. 27 among the hammer throw competitors, Ataman is three spots ahead of Lemon going into the preliminary round of the NCAA Championships. Ataman broke the school record in the event with a throw of 55.75 meters at the Winthrop Invite before setting a new mark against Lafayette with a 57.33-meter heave. She earned All-League and All-East honors by throwing distances of 55.50 meters and 57.04 meters, respectively. Ataman garnered her first Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week award dating back to March 24-31 and was selected to the Academic All-Patriot League Team on Monday. 
Lemon posted a 57.19-meter heave at the ECAC Championships on Saturday that gave her All-East honors and vaulted her into the national championships. She comes into the event ranked at No. 30. Lemon finished second in the hammer with a 55.47 meter throw at the Patriot League Championships. She earned her 14th Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week honor on April 15, setting a new overall league record and single season mark.Ataman and Lemon need to finish in the top 12 to earn All-American status and advance to the final round of NCAA Championships, which will take place June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
