Lehigh rolls to 7-0 win over rival Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Four days after the Lehigh men's tennis team blanked rival Lafayette, the Mountain Hawk women replicated the feat with a 7-0 win Tuesday afternoon on the Sullivan Tennis Courts. The Mountain Hawks won two of three doubles matches and prevailed in all six singles matches to post their 13th straight win over the Leopards.
With the win Lehigh improves to 5-12 overall as the Mountain Hawks even their Patriot League record at 2-2. Lafayette is now 4-7 overall and 0-3 in league matches.
The Mountain Hawks' No. 3 doubles team of sophomores Molly Brooks and Emily Bruch lost to Jordyn Spellberg and Lucy Bass, but Lehigh battled back to take the next two doubles matches as junior Jenai Bilimoria and sophomore Abby Farrell won 8-5 over Caroline Nixon and Amanda Kusnierz at No. 1 doubles and junior Taylor Hampshire and freshman Ali Kaminetsky won 8-4 over Catherine Senopoulos and Liza Blank at the No. 2 flight.In singles play, Farrell posted the most lopsided victory for Lehigh, downing Spellberg 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 flight. The Mountain Hawks clinched the match with three more straight set wins as Bilimoria won 6-3, 6-4 at the top flight, Kaminetsky won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and freshman Marian Prim won 6-4, 6-1 over Bass at No. 6 singles.
Lehigh won the remaining two matches in third-set tiebreaks as Bruch won the first set against Senopoulos at No. 4 singles before bouncing back to win the tiebreak 7-1, while Brooks lost her first set versus Blank at No. 5 but came back to win the second 6-1 and the tiebreak 10-5.
The Mountain Hawks will return home for their final three regular season matches, beginning Sunday when they host Navy on the Ulrich Varsity Courts at 10 a.m.
