Lehigh heads to #7 Penn State for Wednesday night clash

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team heads to in-state rival Penn State on Wednesday for a showdown against the #7 Nittany Lions. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks look to bounce back from a tough stretch against a strong Penn State squad. Lehigh will then return home to host Howard on Senior Day Sunday.
Senior Julie McBrien almost single-handedly kept Lehigh close against American on Sunday, scoring five goals including the team's first four to keep the score tied 4-4 midway through the first half. Lehigh also got goals from freshmen Megan Paytas and Kendall Garden while junior Julie Tatios rounded out the scoring.
McBrien leads the team with 30 goals and 33 assists on the season. The 30 goals broke a previous career high of 24 while she's three points from tying a career high for a season. Paytas and Garden are third and fourth on the team with 17 and 13 points, respectively.
Penn State enters with a 7-4 record, 2-1 in the ALC. The Nittany Lions recently had a big win over #1 Florida, 16-11 before losing at Northwestern last time out. Maggie McCormick leads the team with 46 points (26 goals, 20 assists), Mackenzie Cyr has 36 (22 goals, 14 assists), Kelly Lechner 24 (17 goals, seven assists) and Tatum Coffey 23 (18 goals, five assists). Katie Guy leads the team in groundballs (29) and caused turnovers (20) and Lechner owns a team-leading 31 draw controls. Emi Smith has started all 11 games in goal, owning an 11.29 GAA and 37.8 save percentage.
The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series, 21-0. The sides have met every season from 1985-2001 then each year since 2009.
The Mountain Hawks will return home on Sunday to host Howard at 3 p.m. on Senior Day. MaryLeah DiNisco, McBrien and Anna Patterson will be recognized prior to opening draw for their time with the Brown and White.
