Three Mountain Hawks earn All-League honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following strong 2013 seasons, Lehigh women's lacrosse senior Julie McBrien and sophomores Carli Sukonik and Lauren Willcox have earned Second Team All-Patriot League, as announced on Tuesday. McBrien led the Mountain Hawks in goals (33) and points (36) while Sukonik was right behind with 25 goals and 28 points. Willcox helped anchor a young defense that continues to grow.
McBrien tied a career high with her 36 points for the season. She posted five hat tricks, highlighted by five goals against American, five vs. Bucknell and six against Binghamton. McBrien also led the team with 24 groundballs and 25 draw controls while finishing second with 12 caused turnovers.
Sukonik continued to have a knack of scoring after a breakout freshman campaign. The Penn Valley, Pa. native scored 25 goals in limited action (11 games), including six goals in a big Patriot League win over Bucknell and five in a season opening win against Villanova. Sukonik finished the season with five groundballs, 12 draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Willcox enjoyed a stellar sophomore campaign at defense, standing second on the team with 12 caused turnovers to go with 20 groundballs. She also scored her first-career goal against Binghamton. Willcox enjoyed a career game with five groundballs and a caused turnover in the win over Bucknell, while adding two groundballs and three caused turnovers against American.
Lehigh wrapped up its season at 4-12 and 1-5 in Patriot League play, but a young team showed strong flashes. The Mountain Hawks dropped two one-goal finals in league play while enjoying impressive stretches against some of the nation's best.
