BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team remains home to host its second straight Ivy League foe Wednesday night as the Mountain Hawks welcome Penn. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh has five regular season games remaining, three at home, as the squad looks to gain momentum heading into its final two Patriot League games.
Lehigh is coming off a tough weekend which saw it fall to Lafayette and Yale. Tied at five at the half, the Leopards scored the only second-half goal to come away victorious. The Mountain Hawks were leading Yale 5-4 early in the second half, but the Bulldogs went on a 14-3 run to close the game. Junior Alexandra Fitzpatrick was strong in goal, making 13 saves in both contests to earn honorable mention recognition on the Patriot League weekly honor roll.
A perennial Ivy League and national power, Penn is 4-4 on the season, but 3-0 in Ivy League play. The Quakers are coming off a hard-fought 15-10 defeat to #1 Maryland on Saturday. That snapped a four-game winning streak capped off by two straight overtime thrillers, over Vanderbilt and #10 Cornell. Iris Williamson leads the way with 22 points (21 goals, one assist) while Meredith Cain has 17 (12 goals, five assists), Caroline Bunting 13 (seven goals, six assists) and two others have 10 apiece. Goalkeeper Lucy Ferguson leads the team with 14 groundballs, Meredith Cain owns a team-leading 25 draw controls and Maddie Poplawski a team-leading seven caused turnovers. Ferguson owns a 9.75 GAA and 45.1 save percentage between the pipes.
The Mountain Hawks and Quakers will meet for the first time since 1996, a 15-9 Lehigh victory. Penn leads the all-time series, 6-5. Lehigh won the first four from 1985-88 before the Quakers responded with six straight victories.
Lehigh will return to action Sunday when it hosts American at 1 p.m. in a critical Patriot League matchup.
