Senior Day Feature

The Lehigh women's lacrosse senior class is small in size, but large in impact. Between the three of them, they've helped bring the program to new heights in all aspects. As freshmen, the trio played significant roles in Lehigh's run to the Patriot League Championship Game. These Mountain Hawks advanced to a pair of league tournaments while mentoring a young squad these past two years and setting up the Lehigh program for continued success in the future. Also strong in the classroom, these seniors have an average GPA of 3.45. Lehighsports.com caught up with the three seniors to get thoughts on their careers in the Brown & White.

MaryLeah DiNisco – Goalie – Newbury, Mass. – Global Studies – DiNisco Feature Story
Known as “ML,” goalkeeper MaryLeah DiNisco has experienced a little bit of everything in her time with the Brown & White. She started 12 games as a freshman, including down the stretch and into the postseason as the Mountain Hawks advanced to the Patriot League Championship Game. DiNisco also started 11 games last season, filling in admirably for an injured Alex Fitzpatrick. Whether in the game, or in a backup role, DiNisco continues to support her teammates and serve as a tremendous role model as shown by being voted a team captain. DiNisco excels in the classroom with a 3.38 GPA in Global Studies. She also enjoyed an experience studying abroad in India and has made the most of the opportunities Lehigh presents.

What's your favorite Lehigh Women's Lacrosse memory up until this point? Why?
ML: Besides hosting the Patriot League Tournament my freshman year, probably our game against Navy sophomore year when we won on national television. Playing at Navy is really exciting and was even better winning on their field.

How would you like to be remembered? What legacy would you like to leave at Lehigh?
ML: I'd like to be remembered as a competitive player who would do anything for the team.

Describe the relationship with your fellow seniors.
ML: I think our friendship has gotten closer over our four years here, and both Julie and Anna have become some of my closest friends at Lehigh.

Describe the feeling going into Senior Day. What are some of the thoughts going through your mind as you're nearing the end of your collegiate career?
ML: I never would have imagined that my collegiate athletic career would end this way. It's definitely been a disappointing last two seasons, but I've learned a lot about myself since freshman year. I'm sad to see it end this way, but I've loved playing with all my friends.

What will you miss most about Lehigh women's lacrosse?
ML: I'm going to miss my teammates the most and hanging out with them all the time. I'm also going to miss all of the Lehigh WLax parents who have all definitely become my family away from home.

Julie McBrien – Midfielder – Pearl River, N.Y. – Finance & Marketing – McBrien Feature Story
A walk on, midfielder Julie McBrien has developed into one of the best players in the Patriot League. A two-time All-League honoree, she moved from defense as a freshman to more of an offensive role as a sophomore, but continuing to make her mark at both ends of the field as a stellar midfielder. McBrien is consistently asked to produce offensively while marking one of the opponent's top scorer as well… and she continually produces. McBrien posted 29 points as a sophomore, 36 as a junior and has 33 so far this season including a team-leading and career-high 30 goals. In the classroom, McBrien owns a stellar 3.54 GPA as a Finance major and already has a job lined up with Morgan Stanley.

What's your favorite Lehigh Women's Lacrosse memory up until this point? Why?
JM:
Some of my favorite memories of Lehigh Lacrosse are the times spent with my teammates. Whether it was karaoke on bus rides or Easter egg hunts at Anna Patterson's house, I will remember those moments forever. Lacrosse wise, beating Navy in their stadium my sophomore year was one of the greatest feelings. It is always a tough environment to play in their stadium with all of their fans and students, but beating them on their home field was definitely one of my favorite games.

How would you like to be remembered? What legacy would you like to leave at Lehigh?
JM:
I would like to be remembered as one of the hardest workers on our team. I tried to give every practice and game my best effort and hope that it will carry on with the team.

Describe the relationship with your fellow seniors.
JM:
ML, Patt and I all get along really well. We all have such different personalities, but we enjoy each other's company and will definitely remain friends for years to come. Anna will be an incredible coach and I can't wait to see what the future holds for ML.

Describe the feeling going into Senior Day. What are some of the thoughts going through your mind as you're nearing the end of your collegiate career?
JM:
It is a weird feeling approaching Senior Day. After four years, I never thought this day would come that I would play my final game on our field. I think it will be an emotional day (especially for my mom) because I have invested so much into this program and into my lacrosse career. As it comes to a close, I will be sad to say goodbye.

What will you miss most about Lehigh women's lacrosse?
JM:
I will miss the time I've spent with my friends playing the sport I love. Playing lacrosse in college was one of the best decisions I've made and I will miss it tremendously.

Anna Patterson – Attacker – Severna Park, Md. – Sociology/Social Psychology – Patterson Feature Story
Attacker Anna Patterson has made her mark in a variety of ways. She came in and contributed from the onset, posting 23 points in Lehigh's run to the league title game. Patterson followed that up with 28 as a sophomore. That, coupled with success in the classroom, earned her a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Patterson has continued to make her mark her junior and senior seasons, both on and off the field, as someone who the younger players look up to. Patterson owns a 3.43 GPA as a Sociology/Social Psychology major. Last summer, she traveled to Kenya with SALSC (Student-Athletes Leading Social Change) and helped build a school for the community.

Describe the feeling going into Senior Day. What are some of the thoughts going through your mind as you're nearing the end of your collegiate career?
AP:
It is definitely something that I did not expect to come up so fast. I feel like it was just yesterday that we were sending Inneke Carmola, Kelsy Ferris and Lindsey Smith off on their Senior Day. I am proud to be here, but sad to see the years of competitive lacrosse coming to a close.

What will you miss most about Lehigh women's lacrosse?
AP:
I will miss my team. They are such a great group of people and I am honored to have them as teammates. I have said this to a few of them, but I am so jealous of the girls who will get to be on the team for another few years. This team is just so wonderful to be around.
