EASTON, Pa. – While competing at the Winthrop Invite, Lafayette 7 Way, and Raleigh Relays this weekend, the Lehigh women's track and field team enjoyed strong performances from its throwers and sprinters. The Mountain Hawks finished fifth at Lafayette with 47 points, while no team scores were kept at the other two meets.
Junior Brooke Astor earned the top spot in the heptathlon, garnering 4,858 points in a field of 10 competitors. Her top finishes were first in the javelin (38.74 meters) and second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.74 seconds). Freshman Gabrielle Wardle finished third in the overall event, racking up 4,095 points.
Seniors Lauren and Brittany Pietrosh finished first and second in the 800 meter run with times of 2:15.97 and 2:16.99, respectively. Senior Kathleen Ryan also finished in the top five in the event.
In the track events at Saturday's Lafayette 7 Way, junior Jessica Kendzor finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.70 seconds. Senior Julia Perry crossed the finish line in 4:41.05 in the 1500 meter run, which was also good enough for second place. The Mountain Hawks 4x400 meter relay team of senior Elizabeth McManus, sophomore Halie Carter, senior Khaaleedah Smith and junior Danielle Albergo finished in second place with a time of 3:54.55. Albergo also represented Lehigh as a member of the 4x100 meter relay squad and in the 400 meter dash.
Senior captain Victoria competed in the 10,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays held Friday at North Carolina State.
“None of our athletes have really peaked yet, so the fact that they're setting school records and personal records is remarkable and a real testimony to the technique that they're executing in their individual events,” Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch said.
The Brown and White will compete against Lafayette in a dual meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
