Mountain Hawks sweep Holy Cross to open league play

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lehigh women's tennis team opened Patriot League play on a strong note as the Mountain Hawks dominated Holy Cross 7-0 Saturday at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks dropped just five games in sweeping the doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets to improve to 3-10 on the season.
In doubles, Lehigh's top team of junior Jenai Bilimoria and sophomore Abby Farrell won 8-3 over Jackie Carroll and Taylor Stathis, while the No. 2 and No. 3 teams won by 8-1 scores. Junior Taylor Hampshire and freshman Ali Kaminetsky teamed at the second doubles flight, while junior Jill Sloand teamed with sophomore Molly Brooks at third doubles.
Lehigh continued its dominance in singles play where Farrell and Kaminetsky won by 6-0, 6-0 scores over Carroll and Maya Welch at the second and third flights. Brooks dropped just one game to Addie Devine at No. 5 singles, while Bilimoria won 6-2, 6-2 over Stathis at first singles. Sophomore Emily Bruch won 6-3, 6-3 over Abby Henry at No. 4 singles, while Sloand won by the same score over Cassy Deng at sixth singles.
The Mountain Hawks will remain at West Point to take on Patriot League preseason favorite Army Sunday at 2 p.m. The Black Knights have won the last eight Patriot League titles in women's tennis.
