Lehigh Women’s Cross Country breaks into Regional polls

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's cross country team has entered the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings for the first time this season. The Mountain Hawks claimed the No. 9 spot in the polls following their impressive showing at the 40th Annual Paul Short Run, presented by Asics and Schuylkill Valley Sports.
The Mountain Hawks are now the highest ranked Patriot League team in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Lehigh is coming off a 26th place finish in the Paul Short Women's College Gold race, which served as the best showing of any team in the Patriot League. Lehigh topped Bucknell (29th), Navy (35th), Army (39th), American (42nd), Loyola (45th) and Colgate (tied for 47th). Army, Bucknell and Navy were all projected to finish ahead of Lehigh in the preseason Patriot League polls.
Lehigh's five runners averaged a time of 22:18 in the Women's College Gold 6K, led by Ingrid Simon and Rosie Roessel who both recorded new personal records when they crossed the line at 21:53.
This is the first appearance in the regional rankings for the Lehigh women's team since the week of Oct. 1, 2012, when the Mountain Hawks were ranked 15th. This also marks the first time since the week of Oct. 3, 2011 that Lehigh has been ranked in the top ten regionally.
Next up for the Mountain Hawk women is a trip to the Penn State National Invite on Oct. 18, followed by an appearance at the Lafayette Invitational on Oct. 19.
