Women’s Freshmen Eight takes silver to highlight stellar Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The women's freshmen eight captured second place in the grand finals to highlight a sensational weekend for the Lehigh rowing team at the Dad Vail Regatta. The crew won its semifinal heat before coming in second with a time of 7:09.834. Meanwhile, both the Women's and Men's Varsity Eight placed sixth in the semifinals of their respective heats.
“Second place overall really shows the program's on an upswing,” said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. “The team is excited about where it's going. We can only do better from here with a solid freshmen group like that.
“I think there's a new level excitement for the team in general,” Conley continued. “If you can get a solid group of young people excited about rowing and excited about what the possibilities are, anything can happen. Those girls went out with no doubt in their head they'd be on the medal stand. They made it happen.”
The Women's Freshmen Eight got it started early by coming in first in the semifinals, finishing in 6:57.890, before going on to place second and earn the silver medal.
The Women's Varsity Eight finished in 7:23.263 and Men's Varsity Eight in 6:15.306, both placing sixth, respectively.
“The team knows that comparatively, they're heading in a great direction that can put themselves (as a team) on the medal dock,” said Conley. “That now seems to be a goal that will drive them moving forward.”
