Three school records highlight Lehigh's weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team shined in a pair of meets over the weekend as the Mountain Hawks competed at the Larry Ellis Memorial hosted by Princeton and the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian. There were some stellar performances which included personal records, a meet record as well as an incredible three broken school records.
Rebecca Duhamel had an incredible weekend at the Greyhound Invitational. She won the discus throw while setting a new school record with a distance of 45.40m, surpassing the previous Lehigh mark of 44.44m set by Amanda Sage in 1998. Duhamel's distance also qualified her for the ECAC Championships.
 
Duhamel also placed third in the shot put (12.89m) and sixth in the hammer throw (45.72m).
 
The second broken school record came in the 400m dash as Jessica Kendzor placed third with a time of 56.79. Kendzor also had an incredible race at the Larry Ellis Memorial where she placed 10th in the 800m run with a time of 2:09.38, which qualified her for the ECAC Championships.
 
The third school record fell in the 200m dash as Kristin Slotnick placed second with a time of 24.93, smashing her previous record 25.07 which she set last year. Slotnick was one of four Mountain Hawks to finish in the top 10 in the event as Alexandra Doersam was right behind her in third with a time of 25.50. Knapp was sixth (25.75) and Albergo was 10th (25.93).
 
E'Lana Lemon set a new meet record in the hammer throw as she won the event with a distance of 54.45m, qualifying her for the ECAC Championships. Jimil Ataman placed second in the event with a distance of 51.34m, also qualifying her for the ECAC Championships.
 
Lehigh's 4x100 meter relay team of Khaaleedah Smith, Melissa Knapp, Danielle Albergo and Slotnick won the event with an ECAC qualifying time of 47.84.
 
The Mountain Hawks also took first in the 1500m run as Lauren Sternick won the event with a time of 4:44.58.
 
Lehigh then placed seven in the top 11 of the 800m run including the winner of the event, Julia Perry who crossed the finish line first with a time of 2:12.46. Lauren Pietrosh placed third with a time of 2:15.72, Brittany Pietrosh was fifth (2:16.81), then Ingrid Simon (7th – 2:18.66), Sternick (8th – 2:18.70), Catherine Tobiasen (9th– 2:19.18) and Alexandra Neville (11th – 2:20.23).
 
Albergo also placed fifth in the 400m dash, setting a personal record of 57.73.
 
Jonelle Jerwick also set a personal record in the pole vault with a distance of 3.45m; it was her second personal record in consecutive weeks.
 
Four Mountain Hawks finished in the top 10 in the 3000m steeplechase. Megan Hetzel was third with a time of 11:51.98 while Charlotte Malmborg was behind her in fourth with a time of 12:00.60. Katherine Howley was seventh (12:07.95) while Shannon Wright was 10th (12:15.95).
 
In the 3000m steeplechase at the Larry Ellis Memorial, Hannah Pierce placed 36th while setting a new personal record with a time of 11:27.09.
 
Also at Princeton, Katherine Pierce had a strong finish in the 5000m run, placing 23rd with a time of 17:09.28, qualifying her for the ECAC Championships.
 
Lehigh will be back in action next weekend for the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and the Mountain Hawks will also host the Lehigh Games on Goodman Campus.
