Mountain Hawks excel in two weekend meets

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team shined in a pair of unscored meets over the weekend. At the Bucknell Outdoor Classic, Lehigh had a first-place finish and three second places including an ECAC qualifier. At the Pollard Invitational at Moravian, the Mountain Hawks won seven events including setting four meet records.

Junior E'lana Lemon won the hammer throw and set a meet record with a distance of 54.34m while Jimil Ataman placed second with a distance of 53.09m.
Rebecca Duhamel won a pair of events. She finished first the discus throw with a meet record 42.51m while she won the shot put with a distance of 13.11m. Katie Baglio finished third and fourth in those events, respectively.
Kristin Slotnick placed first in the 200m dash with a meet record 25.70 while teammate Khaaleedah Smith finished second with a time of 26.05. Slotnick also took third in the 1000m run with a time of 12.48.
Brooke Astor was Lehigh's fourth record setter, winning the 100m hurdles in a meet record 14.38.
Shannon Nelson was the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:15.65 while Peggy Lai was second in the event (12:29.99).
Melissa Romero was the seventh Mountain Hawks to win an event as she placed first in the javelin with a distance of 39.03m. Carly Deskins was fourth in the event with a distance of 36.58m.
Lehigh also had outstanding performances in the 4x400m relay as the team of Slotnick, Smith, Melissa Knapp and Elizabeth McManus placed second with a time of 3:55.92, which was just 0.29 behind first.
The Mountain Hawks also took second in the 800m run where Victoria Mullane finished with a time of 2:21.42.
Lehigh dominated the 1500m run, placing four runners in the top six. Lauren Sternick took second with a time of 4:52.02, just finishing ahead of teammate Ingrid Simon who crossed the finish line 0.45 behind Sternick. Shannon Wright was fifth (4:55.40) while Samantha Andersen was sixth (4:57.40).
At the Bucknell Outdoor Classic, Lauren Pietrosh was Lehigh's lone event winner as she took first in her section of the 800m run with a time of 2:15.11 while her sister Brittany Pietrosh placed second with a time of 2:16.14.
Jessica Kendzor qualified for the ECACs in the 800m, as she placed second in her section with a time of 2:08.61, surpassing the 2:10.94 needed.
Carolyn Morse also had a stellar showing at the meet as she placed second in the 5000m run with a time of 18:00.66 while Hanna Pierce finished third in her section of the 1500m run with a time of 4:51.05.
Lehigh will look to keep its momentum going next weekend as the team splits up to compete in the Greyhound Invite at Moravian and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
