Mountain Hawks set for pair of weekend meets

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a dual meet victory of rival Lafayette last weekend, the Lehigh women's track and field team will split its squad for a pair of meets this weekend. Part of the team will head to Moravian for the 2012 Pollard Invitational on Friday and Saturday while the rest of the squad will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. for Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
The Mountain Hawks were successful against the Leopards last weekend, capturing 12 first-place finishes en route to a 116-87 victory.
Sophomore Brooke Astor led the charge by winning three individual events, the 100m hurdles (14.94), 400m hurdles (1:03.89) and high jump (1.57m). Junior Kristin Slotnick also won two events, the 100m dash (12.14) and the 400m dash (57.39).
Junior E'lana Lemon earned Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week honors for her effort, taking first in the hammer throw with an ECAC qualifying distance of 54.10m. It was Lemon's first Field Athlete of the Week award in outdoor track and her ninth career Patriot League weekly honor.The Pollard Invitational will be a test of local competitors, as the field includes host Moravian, Lafayette, Monmouth, DeSales, East Stroudsburg, Ithaca and Muhlenburg. The meet will kickoff Friday afternoon with a few track and field events beginning at 4 p.m., while the majority of events will take place on Saturday, when the meet resumes at 10 a.m.
The Bison Outdoor Classic will span Saturday and Sunday, with action getting underway at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, and resuming at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The Mountain Hawks found success at both events last year, and will look to continue their momentum as they get set to compete this weekend.
