Women’s soccer announces 2016 recruiting class

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's soccer head coach Eric Lambinus announced the team's incoming class of 2016, which consists of seven student-athletes from five different states including California, New Mexico, New York, Michigan and Tennessee. The class also features a diverse group of talent, with multiple defenders and midfielders along with a goalkeeper.
“Our coaching staff is excited about our class of 2016 and what they can bring to the women's soccer program at Lehigh,” Lambinus said. “All seven of the student-athletes are a great fit for Lehigh, both on the soccer field and in the classroom. We are looking forward to working with them over the next four years to help them become great soccer players, high achieving students and exceptional young ladies that will represent Lehigh the right way.”
Here is a complete rundown of the incoming freshmen:
Aileen Bidad – M – Washingtonville, N.Y. – Engineering
Bidad comes to Lehigh from Quickstrike FC and a Washingtonville High School team that won the New York sectional championship in 2010 and 2011. On her high school team, she was selected as Rookie of the Year in 2010 and Most Valuable Midfielder her senior year. Her Quickstrike FC team is one of the top ranked teams in Region I and has won numerous national level tournaments, including the 2011 PDA Showcase. Off the field, she is a Merit Scholar-Athlete, a member of the Math and Science Honor Society and winner of the University of Rochester Xerox Award.
Coach Lambinus on Bidad: “Aileen is a highly technical outside midfielder who will fit in very well with our style of play. She has a great work ethic and a willingness to go at defenders 1v1. Her high school and club experience has definitely prepared her to compete right away.”
Kathryn “Katie” Centeno – M – Coronado, Calif. – Business
Centeno is one of the two incoming student-athletes from California, where she played for Nado Select and Coronado High School. At Coronado, she was captain of the team in her senior year and led the team to one State, three CIF District and three league championships in her four-year career. She was also captain of her Nado Select club team. Off the field, she was named to the San Diego Union-Tribune All Academic Team for three consecutive years.
Coach Lambinus on Centeno:“Katie is a high energy central midfield player who attended our Lehigh Soccer Academy camp this past summer. We instantly felt she would be a great fit for Lehigh and our soccer program. She brings a great energy both on and off the field that is very contagious to everyone around her. She has just begun to scratch her potential, and we look forward to bringing it out at Lehigh.”
Paige Elliott – D – Apison, Tenn. – Engineering
Elliott comes to Lehigh all the way from Tennessee, where she experienced a tremendous amount of success as captain of FC Alliance and a four-year letter winner with the Baylor School. Her high school career completed with her Baylor team defending their State Championship and finishing third in the country according to ESPN. She was named first team All-State by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and named the 2011 Defensive Player of the Year by Chattanoogan.com. Academically, Elliott is a member of the Baylor School Cum Laude Society, AP Scholar with Honor, winner of the Jim Pearce Leadership Trip Award and was just named a National Merit Scholar Finalist. In her spare time, she ran on the Baylor School's four-time Tennessee State Champion track team where she won state championships on both the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams
Coach Lambinus on Elliott: “Paige is a modern day attacking outside back that has the ability to play the entire length of the field. She is a fast, highly fit and athletic defender who is an excellent in 1v1 situations but has the technical ability to deliver great services in the attacking third of the field. She definitely has the ability to impact the game at both ends of the field. ”
Emily Korber – D – Massapequa, N.Y. – Business
Korber is our second player in the class from New York, hailing from Long Island. She played for the Massapequa Force Premier team before joining the East Meadow Express ECNL team this past year. Korber played for St. Anthony's High School where she led her team to the 2011 Long Island and New York State Championships. She was named MVP of the team and garnered New York All-State honors (fifth team) and All-Long Island honors by NYSSCOGS. She was a member of the National Honor Society at St. Anthony's and was a Bonaventure Award Recipient the past three years in an all Honors/AP curriculum.
Coach Lambinus on Korber: “Emily is a player who we were immediately drawn to because of her aggressiveness and technical ability. While primarily playing as a defender in the past, we think she has the potential to impact our team in several roles including the midfield. Emily plays with a tremendous amount of competitiveness, aggressiveness and intensity that will fit right in with our team.”
Kiley Loehr – D – Albuquerque, N.M. – Business
Loehr travels to Lehigh from Albuquerque where she played for the four-time New Mexico state champion, Albuquerque Academy, which also holds the State 4A record for consecutive championships. She was captain of the team and was named to the 4A All State and All District teams all four years. Loehr played club soccer with New Mexico Rush in 2010 and 2011 after winning the New Mexico state cup four times with the Rio Vista Eagles. She is also a member of the Senoritas program of the Music Guild of New Mexico and enjoys snowboarding and wakeboarding.
Coach Lambinus on Loehr: “Kiley is versatile defender who has experience playing as an attacking outside back and central defender. She is a physical defender who is tremendous in the air but also has the technical ability to keep possession and initiate the attack. She has the potential to develop into a solid defender on our team.”
Madisson “Madi” Morgan – M – Grand Rapids, MI – Arts & Sciences
Morgan was a four-year starter at East Grand Rapids High School in Michigan and played for the Grand Rapids Crew Juniors. In 2011, she led her club team to an undefeated season in the Mid-West Regional League and an appearance in the Michigan state cup finals. At East Grand Rapids, she was team MVP as a junior, All-Area Dream Team Selection by Advance Newspapers and a two time All-State Selection. Off the field, Morgan is highly involved in service opportunities with several mission trips to Wisconsin, South Carolina, Colorado and Puerto Rico. She also volunteers with the Mayflower Congregational Church by participating in activities for the homeless and delivering meals to shut-ins.
Coach Lambinus on Morgan: “Madi is a student-athlete we are very familiar with as she been one of the outstanding performers at our camps and clinics over the last two years. She is a highly active and technical central midfield player who has the ability to finish in the offensive third of the field. Central midfield players who score goals are difficult to find and we are happy to have Madi join our program.”
Ani Nahapetian – GK – Pleasanton, Calif. – Engineering
Nahapetian is the only goalkeeper in the class and the second that hails from California. She comes to Lehigh from Pleasanton Rage and Amador Valley High School. She was a member of the Cal North State ODP team for three years and attended the Region 4 ODP regional camp in 2008 and 2009. She was the MVP of her Amador Valley team in 2009 and won the Coaches Award for her Pleasanton Rage team during their run to the 2011 state cup semifinals. Academically, Nahapetian was a 2011 AP Scholar and a Distinction Award recipient. She also won the NCS Scholar-Athlete award for soccer and track for four straight years.
Coach Lambinus on Nahapetian: “Ani is a highly technical goalkeeper who should be able to compete for playing time right away. She is an athletic goalkeeper that does everything really well, including playing the ball with her feet, which has become such an important part of the position. In addition, Ani has experience competing with other goalkeepers and she will be able to use that experience to compete with our current goalkeepers while also maintaining a great relationship.”
