Kinek clinches PL Anaconda Rookie of the Week honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman forward Kerry Kinek has been named the Patriot League's Rookie of the Week for the period ending on November 25, recognizing her stellar play against three quality opponents this past week. Kinek averaged 14.4 points per game and 8.7 rebounds in three tilts against La Salle, Wagner and Monmouth. It is the first Patriot League award the freshman has received in her collegiate career.
Kinek dropped 17 points against La Salle and blocked a career-high five shots in a last-second loss to the Explorers, before scoring 17 more and pulling down 12 rebounds for her second-career double-double against Wagner on Friday evening. The 6-3 Whitehall, Pa. native then scored nine points and grabbed a game-high nine boards in a double-overtime defeat at the hands of Monmouth on Sunday.
She has produced all season long, starting with a double-double in her first collegiate appearance against No. 13/15 California (18 points, 12 rebounds) in the season-opener. Kinek has scored and rebounded in double figures in three of her five career collegiate games, while playing the second most minutes on the team.
Kinek is averaging a double-double for the Mountain Hawks this season (13.2 ppg, 10.0 rbg) and is Lehigh's leading scorer and shot blocker with nine blocks. The talented freshman is also shooting 57.9 percent from the charity stripe (11-for-19) on the season, showcasing not only her dominance in the paint, but her ability to capitalize on opponents' mistakes.
