BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With just under three weeks from its first game, the Lehigh women's basketball team is turning up the intensity in preparations for the University of California season-opener on November 9 in Berkeley, Calif. Lehighsports.com got the chance to catch up with senior Marybeth Egan to see how the team is coming together as their season tip-off in The Golden State looms in the near future.
"It's been fun to play against each other and be competitive," said Egan. "I think the exciting part about this time is you are seeing the identity of the team form as people step-up and fill roles they haven't filled before."
Previously, we spoke to senior co-captain Kelly Peterson about her homecoming to California for the season-opener. Egan echoed her excitement, as she talked with us about the cross-country trip.
"It's pretty cool and it's obviously great for Kelly to get a chance to go home," said Egan. "We're all going to really enjoy seeing a little bit of her hometown and it's great that she'll get a chance to play in front of some of her local fans."
The senior has observed the improvement of the team throughout camp, but realizes the obstacle that stands in front of them.
"It's nice to see the progress from day one, but Cal is definitely going to be a great challenge," said Egan.
At 10 p.m. (ET) on November 9, the action starts with Lehigh vs. Cal inside Haas Pavilion when the Mountain Hawks take the floor to start the 2012-13 season.
