“I am so excited; it's kind of surreal,” said Prosser. “It hasn't hit me yet. Not very many people get to do what they love for a living. I am very fortunate to have gotten this opportunity. It's a great situation and definitely a dream-come-true.”
“As a program, we are very excited for the opportunity that has been presented to Erica to play professionally overseas,” said Lehigh head coach Sue Troyan. “She's had an outstanding career, leaving her legacy on our program with many personal and team accolades along the way. This opportunity is a testament to the impact that she's had on our program and our league, and is something she has worked very hard for. We are very proud of her and feel like she will be in a program where she'll have a high level of continued success.”
Prosser became just the second women's basketball player in Patriot League history to eclipse 1,500 career points and 500 career assists. She finished her career third in Lehigh history with 1,676 points and second with 541 assists. Her 166 made three-pointers also stands third most.
The Pittsburgh, Pa. native was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team as a freshman and followed that up by garnering First Team All-Patriot League honors in each of her final three years. That included two seasons (as a sophomore and senior) when she was named Player of the Year.
Prosser enjoyed plenty of success at Lehigh, leading the Mountain Hawks to two-straight Patriot League Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, before earning a share of the regular season crown and advancing to the WNIT a year ago.
“I've never been to Europe,” she said. “The only time I was out of the country was to go to Kenya last summer with SALSC (Student-Athletes Leading Social Change). I'm really excited to see a different part of the world and meet new people. The coaching staff for my team is great; I'm anxious to get over there and meet everybody.”
Prosser will head to Sweden in less than three weeks (Aug. 25) to begin her professional career. When looking back at her time at Lehigh, she knows her experience in the Brown & White has helped prepare her to have success in the pro game.
“Coach Troyan and the coaching staff at Lehigh always emphasize the importance of being a well-rounded person, on and off the court,” said Prosser. “She also stresses the importance of leadership development. A lot of times, European teams and professional teams in general are looking for talent. But this club in particular was harping on the importance of coming in, leading and fitting well with the group of girls.
“It was a little surprising to me because you don't hear that a lot,” she continued. “With the way Coach Troyan molded me, I think I will fit really well. I'm grateful for everything Coach Troyan has taught me because it will help me this upcoming season.”
