Women’s lacrosse recognized by IWLCA for academic success

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team was recently recognized by the IWLCA among its 2011 Academic Squad List. The Mountain Hawks are one of four Patriot League teams recognized, along with American, Colgate and Lafayette. To qualify for recognition, schools must achieve a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or above for the 2010-11 academic year.
Lehigh enjoyed a strong 2011 season, both on the field and in the classroom, finishing second in the Patriot League standings to advance to its fifth straight league tournament. Anna Patterson was named to the inaugural Patriot League All-Academic Team while she and eight teammates were recognized on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Caitlin Keefe led the squad with a stellar 3.81 GPA last spring.
In addition, goalie MaryLeah DiNisco win an Arthur Ashe Award, presented to student-athletes of color who exemplify high standards in academics, athletics and service to the community. Winners must meet the following criteria: have completed one full academic year at their respective institutions, earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, be an active member of an intercollegiate athletic team and demonstrated a record of campus or community service.
Allison Thomas also received a Lehigh Distinguished Achievement Award at last spring's annual convocation, which includes a significant academic component. The recipients are student-athletes who have displayed a high level of scholarship, significant athletic achievement at the league level and beyond and demonstrated service to the institution.
