BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehighsports.com recently caught up with women's lacrosse goalie Alexandra Fitzpatrick, who has had a busy summer following a sensational freshman campaign. In late May, she (along with teammate Julie McBrien) participated in the first round of tryouts for the U.S. Senior National Team.
“It was always something I wanted to do,” said Fitzpatrick, when asked about trying out. “It was a win-win opportunity. It was just a good experience to play against the best athletes in the country.”
Fitzpatrick finished a stellar freshman campaign with a .506 save percentage, which stood third in the nation, while her 8.66 GAA was eighth nationally. A First Team All-Patriot League honoree, Fitzpatrick turned it up over the latter half of the season. That included a career-high 16 saves at Temple, 14 vs. American, 11 against Virginia Tech and 10 at No. 15 Penn State. Fitzpatrick also earned two straight Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards in April.
