All-Stars Kent, Fanaroff and Wiand highlight Lehigh players in summer leagues

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Cory Kent, Harrison Fanaroff and Jeff Wiand highlight Lehigh baseball players competing in summer leagues around the country. All three were selected as All-Stars in their respective leagues; Wiand played in Monday's Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game while Fanaroff's Maryland Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game is Saturday (July 16) and Kent's Coastal Plains League All-Star Game next Monday (July 18).

Overall, the Mountain Hawks are represented on over a dozen summer league teams from as close as the Lehigh Valley to as far away as California.

Kent has been stellar for the Fayetteville SwampDogs, going 4-0 with a 1.52 ERA in a team-high 18 games in relief. One if his teammates is Brendan McGaheran while Steven Ball is also in the Coastal Plains League, the same league which produced 2011 Major League Baseball All-Stars Justin Verlander and Kevin Youkilis.

Fanaroff has been playing first base for the Rockville Storm, hitting .345, with a team-leading .552 save percentage and a .472 on base percentage.

One of four Mountain Hawks on the Quakertown Blazers, Wiand was the starting designated hitter for the West in Monday's ACBL All-Star Game at MCU Park in Brooklyn. On the summer, Wiand is hitting a team-leading .302 with three doubles, a home run and five RBI. Joining him on the Blazers are Mountain Hawk teammates Luke Porter, Brandon Sady and Chad Warga.

Quakertown was also represented with an MLB All-Star as San Francisco Giants' pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, who suited up for the Blazers from 1996-97, earned his first All-Star bid this year.

Another student-athlete enjoying notable success is pitcher Jayme Edwards for the Sanford River Rats of the Florida Collegiate League. He owns a stellar 3.00 ERA, allowing only seven earned runs in 21.0 innings of work.
