BETHLEHEM, Pa. - To no one's surprise, Pittsburgh native and senior point guard Erica Prosser was named Lehigh's Most Outstanding Athlete award winner for a second time as the Mountain Hawks women's basketball team wrapped up the 2010-11 season with their annual post-season banquet at the University Center in the Asa Packer Room on Sunday afternoon.
Prosser, who earned Patriot League Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors, helped lead Lehigh to its third-straight 20-win season and third-straight Patriot League regular season title. The Mountain Hawks finished coach Sue Troyan's 16th season at the helm with a 21-11 record and tied for first with a 10-4 record in Patriot League play.
Prosser was one of four senior players honored at the banquet along with Kristen Dalton, Courtney Dentler and Kristen Iafolla, who posted 94 career wins as class, by far the most in program history. Among some of their other accomplishes were: winning two Patriot League Tournament titles (2009 and 2010), making three postseason appearances in three-straight seasons, including two NCAA berths, compiling three-straight 20-win seasons, a program record, and winning a program-best 29 games during the 2009-10 season.
Prosser ranks third in program history with 1,676 career points and second in assists with 541. She is just the second player in Patriot League history to score 1,500 points and dish out 500 assists. Prosser is the first player in Patriot League history to earn both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Prosser earned Player of the Year for the second time in her career and First Team All-League honors for the third consecutive year. Prosser was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League team for a stellar 2010-11 season on and off the court, as she sported a 3.63 GPA in the classroom.
Fellow senior classmate Courtney Dentler earned the Coach's Award, which is awarded to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership. Dentler was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team. She finished second on the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game, which ranked 10th in the Patriot League. Dentler also finished the 2010-11 season ranked in the top 10 in rebounding (10th), field goal percentage (6th), free throw percentage (6th), three-point field goal percentage (3rd), blocked shots (6th) and defensive rebounds (8th).
Kristen Dalton was named the Scholar Athlete award winner for being, in the eyes of her teammates, the ideal of the scholar-athlete. Dalton has posted a 3.53 GPA over her five years at Lehigh and is majoring in journalism and psychology, along with a minor in communications. Dalton, who started the majority of the games her senior season, was fifth on the team in scoring (6.1) and fourth in three-point field goals made (1.1). She also averaged 2.0 assists per game, which was good for second on the team.
The Sixth Man Award, which is awarded to an individual or group of people who have made a major impact on the program, was given to Roseann Corsi and Stephanie Balavitch. Corsi, who serves as the Community Relations Coordinator at Lehigh, was essential in helping promote Lehigh's successful WBCA Pink Zone Game. Balavitch is coming off her fourth season as a Graduate Assistant for the women's basketball staff.
Lehigh will return 12 players to next year's team, including three starters in Emily Gratch, Alexa Williams and Becky Guman. Williams led the team in rebounding and was fourth on the team in scoring. Gratch was the team's third leading scorer, averaging 10.4 points per game.
