Mountain Hawks wrap up home slate vs. Virginia Tech on Senior Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding a five-game winning streak, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team wraps up its home schedule when it hosts Virginia Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. It's also Senior Day as three Mountain Hawk seniors will be honored prior to opening draw. Sitting in second place in the Patriot League standings, Lehigh is coming off a 14-9 victory over Iona on Wednesday night.
This game marks the final regular season home game for the Mountain Hawks, and the final home game in the careers of seniors Lauren Dykstra, Allison Thomas, and Kindall Healy. After Saturday's tilt, the Mountain Hawks hit the road for a three-game stretch to end the regular season - at No. 15 Penn State, Holy Cross and Navy.
Saturday's game is part of Lehigh's Summit Series and will be a ticketed event. Tickets are only $5 for the general public, $3 for youth, groups and seniors and free for Lehigh students, faculty and staff.
Lehigh can attribute its five-game winning streak to a combination of strong offensive outputs and the solid play of the defense and freshman goalie Alexandra Fitzpatrick. The Mountain Hawks defeated Iona, 14-9, on Wednesday night behind an eight-point effort from Lauren Dykstra and an eight-save performance from Fitzpatrick. Sophomore Megan Kelly also added a career-high tying four goals on the day and senior Allison Thomas had five points, including a career-high four assists.
Dykstra's seven goals give her 239 for her career. She is now only four away from breaking the Lehigh (and Patriot League) career record of 242 held by Jill Altshuler. Dykstra currently stands 11th in NCAA history in career goals and would move into 10th with four more tallies. Also of note is Fitzpatrick, whose strong play of late has pushed her all the way to fourth nationally in save percentage. As a team, the Mountain Hawks currently rank sixth in draw controls.
Lehigh is facing a strong Virginia Tech squad (8-6), who is coming off a two-goal loss to rival and No. 11 nationally ranked Virginia. The Hokies feature a strong offense, scoring 13.0 goals per game behind the play of senior attacker Allie Emala and junior midfielder Jessica Nonn. Emala has tallied 48 points on the season thus far via 32 goals and 16 assists while Nonn has produced 45 points via 35 goals and 10 assists. Goalie Alex Gale has .375 save percentage on the season. The Hokies' marquee win this season came against No. 16 Boston College back on Mar. 12.
Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Virginia Tech.
The Mountain Hawks wrap up the regular season with a three-game road trip. The first game will be at Penn State on Tuesday (Apr. 12) at 4 p.m. This will be followed by two big league games against Holy Cross and Navy. Lehigh will look to avenge last year's Patriot League final loss to Navy when it plays the Midshipmen on Apr. 23 on CBS Sports Network.
